HUD OFFICIALS TAKE “A CLOSER LOOK AT PUBLIC HOUSING”

Hunter Kurtz, HUD Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Public and Indian Housing (PIH) made a special trip to Lancaster, PA recently to learn more about the operations of the Lancaster City Housing Authority (LCHA), where he was welcomed by LCHA Executive Director Barbara Wilson.

While there, he walked through the process applicants follow to apply for HUD-assisted housing and sat in on a meeting with an applicant recently selected from the waiting list.  He met with local partners, including Matthew Sternberg, Executive Director of the Lancaster County Housing & Redevelopment Authority, and toured public housing with Ms. Wilson, HUD Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Joe DeFelice, HUD Philadelphia PIH Director Monica Hawkins, and LCHA Board Chair and City Council President James Reichenbach.

A key highlight of his trip was the time he spent seeing the former public housing complex where his grandparents and mother once lived.
