REAC Deputy Assistant Secretary DJ LaVoy Transfers to USDA

A Message from R. Hunter Kurtz, Assistant Secretary of Public & Indian Housing, U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development

Dear Colleagues:

It is with great excitement and sadness that I announce that Deputy Assistant Secretary DJ LaVoy has been asked by Secretary Perdue to serve as the Deputy Under Secretary of Rural Development at the Department of Agriculture.  He started at USDA this week.  PIH has been fortunate enough to have had DJ’s talent and commitment for over 20 years, leading innovative reforms that have and will improve service for our partners, PHAs, and residents for decades to come.

I am also pleased to welcome David Vargas as Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Real Estate Assessment Center (REAC).  He will be joining us from the General Services Administration (GSA).  He has also served at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in multiple positions where he led the Federal government’s initiative to develop a strategic approach for using information technology to support human capital management.  David is no stranger to HUD.  Before his tenure at GSA and OPM, he was the Deputy Assistant Secretary of REAC.  His 22-year career at HUD has included leadership positions with responsibility for policy development, strategic planning, budgeting and financial management, operations of the Housing Choice Voucher program, and HUD’s disaster response to hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Ike, and Gustav.

Please join me in welcoming David back home to HUD!

With appreciation,

R. Hunter Kurtz, Assistant Secretary of Public & Indian Housing, U.S. Dept. of HUD
